Biography
Senior Year (2016)
This year, Lena gracefully moved into the role of Captain. She has always been well equipped with a maturity and desire to support her fellow teammates, making it only natural that she fills this leadership position. She has an awesome court presence where she demonstrates this leadership. Her technique is as graceful as she, moving the ball around the court with sharp angles and quick changes of pace. When stuck in a tough position last year, facing a loss, she turned the table with a strong one-sided win. She also stepped up her doubles play over the last season and is looking forward to improving that aspect of her game this year. Lena is looking forward to spending time with the team and traveling with them! She says, “It will be an adventure”.
Junior Year (2015)
Lena will be competing in her second year on the team. She played a vital role in helping Principia to win the conference. She played number five singles last year but may move up in the line-up this year. She will also be playing some doubles this year. Lena brings her calm presence to the court and she says that last year her metaphysical theme was "peace, and joy, and power.” She looks forward to carrying that theme over to this year. She enjoys the comradery of being on the team, and especially loves the metaphysical support she share with her teammates and the laughter.
Sophomore Year (2014)
Lena arrives on this year’s team after taking two seasons off. Her freshman year at Principia College she chose to focus on academics and not to play but we held a spot for her. We are so glad she has taken her spot because she has brought her fresh insight, enthusiasm, poise, and love of the game to the team. She is looking forward to improving her singles play and to work on her volleys so she is a force in doubles. She is excited to be part of a team and spend time with the “wonderful Principia tennis women.” Lena cherishes the opportunity of being a sister, a friend, and the biggest fan to the nine other women on the tennis team.
Fun Facts:
When did you start playing tennis and why?
I have no idea! I began playing at a summer tennis camp and loved it. I probably started playing because all the cool kids on the block were.
What do you love most about playing tennis?
I love the team aspect. A lot of people think that tennis is an individual sport and forget that you need each point just as much as the other to win.
