Nick Johnson

Nick Johnson first got into rugby as a college student as a substitute for ice hockey, which he had grown up playing and was not readily available. After college he started coaching simply because the team needed a coach! He then left to obtain his masters as well as start his PHD program. He rejoined the program as an assistant coach in 2014 when he came back to teach at Principia College. He is now on his 14th year coaching rugby. He focuses on coaching forwards and defense. He has helped coach 10 All- Americans, 5 Collegiate DII 7s National Tournament appearances, 2 Gateway 7s Conference Championships and 1 Gateway 15s Conference Championship.

Johnson states “I’ve stuck with rugby because of the strong bonds that are formed between teammates and even across teams; rugby has a strong culture of brotherhood and acceptance of others while providing ample opportunity for character growth.  Every rugby team I’ve been part of has had a great group of guys.”
