Biography

Senior Year (part 2) (2020-21)
Daniel “El Maestro” Gomez returns with renewed eligibility this season for the Panthers. He also carries the honor of Team Captain along with senior Wyatt Dale. Gomez earned a regional ranking as high as #12 in 2019, and looks to improve upon that with a full season ahead. Daniel is ready to seize every opportunity in both singles and doubles this spring. With his work ethic, love of competition, and goal setting, El Maestro Gomez will leave nothing in the bag.

Senior Year (2019-20)
Daniel returns for his senior year at Principia, where he looks to make some noise at the regional and national level in singles. Daniel enters the season as the #14 player in the ITA Central Region Rankings, and will have many opportunities to improve that number this spring. Daniel is an excellent competitor and gives everything he has each time on the court, and his willingness to push himself to become a better player inspires his teammates to do the same. As the returning Latino influence on the team, Daniel will likely convert the Panthers to a native Spanish-speaking team by mid-April.

Junior Year (2018-19)
Daniel “El Maestro” Gomez joins Principia men’s tennis as a junior and adds tremendous talent to the 5-time defending SLIAC championship team. Gomez tops the scale and adds great depth to the panther squad this year.  At the #1 singles spot, Daniel has already made a strong impact to the lineup. We look forward to an anticipated strong season both individually for Daniel in the SLIAC Conference, but also as a team because of his contribution. Senor Gomez is a welcome addition to the Panthers, and an exciting player to watch.

Fun Facts:
1.)  When did you start playing tennis and why?
I started playing tennis at the age of 7 because I saw my dad playing a tournament and that motivated me to start practicing and it got me closer with my dad.

2.)  What do you love most about tennis?
I love tennis because it pushes me as an athlete and as a person. What I love most is that I can never get enough, I always have to improve something. When I think I'm doing well the competition will show me that there's more to learn and focus on. I love competition, practices, and giving everything I have, and the tennis court is the best place to do that.
