-Personal: My name is Conrad Arthur Bollinger. I was born in St. Louis in July of 1993. My parents are Jamie and Tessa Bollinger.
When did you start in the sport, and how did that happen?
Conrad Bollinger started Track and Field in 5th grade. The first time he pole vaulted was in 7th grade. He continued to play around with the sport throughout middle school and as he progressed to high school he began to train more seriously. His freshman and sophomore years he competed in the pole vault, the men’s 400 meter dash, and ran as an alternate on the 4x400 relay team. His junior year he ran in the 4x400 and the 4x800. The 4x400 team finished second at the state track meet. Bollinger’s individual split was 51.6 seconds. The 4x800 had a successful finish to the season with a state championship. The relay team ran a time 17 seconds faster than their previous best to beat out a rival school in an exciting photo finish. Bollinger’s split was 2:00, which was 5 seconds faster than his previous best. Bollinger vaulted 13’6” at the meet, which placed him in second place overall.
High School Accolades
Bollinger’s senior year he gave up the 4x800 and 4x400 to focus solely on the vault. As the season progressed he joined the men’s 4x100 and 4x200 relay teams. Both relay teams set new school records during the season and had state finishes. The 4x100 posted a time of 43.1 and 4x200 ran 1:29.7. The 4x200 won state and the 4x100 had an unfortunate finish with the anchor injuring his hamstring just before the team clinched the championship. Bollinger finished second again in the vault jumping 14’8”. In college Bollinger continues to train for the vault. His current mark in the vault is 15’5”, which he jumped the indoor season of his freshman year. He misses the intensity and competitive aspects of the relays teams but has found a love of vaulting that continues to propel him further into the sport.
