Principia Plays Newcomer to the SLIAC; 39-67

The women stepped onto Spalding University's court determined to play better than their previous game. Without a doubt, the Principia team made significant progress versus the newly added conference team. Principia took much better care of the ball while maneuvering safely through Spaldings' full court press. With a mere five minutes in the game, the score was tied at 7-7. With a time out called by the Lady Panthers at 10:31 in the first half, Principia led 16-13. Despite improvement upon the total of defensive and offensive rebounds, Spalding controlled the boards 47-39. Sophomore Lindsay Sydness scored the first bucket of the night, from an inbound play, to begin what eventually resulted in her third consecutive double-double, with 13 rebounds and 14 points. Junior captain Dani Corbitt drained a three-pointer from the top of the key early in the first half, while grabbing seven rebounds and scoring eight points for game. With approximately five minutes left in the first half, Spalding went on a 10-2 run leaving the score at 30-18. Even though it was the Lady Panthers' second game in two days, they showed great mental toughness. Freshmen Sarah Corbitt was our second highest scorer with 10 points and gave us consistent tenacious defense. Sarah and Dani Corbitt are the type of players that never stop working, and that was seen time again in this game. The Lady Panther's offensive flow varied throughout the game, which resulted in points out of transitions for Spalding. Junior Captain and starting point guard, Emily Wheeler, had another solid game, and went 3-3 from the free-throw line after a foul from behind the arc. The Lady Panther's did not waver in their trust of each other and played aggressively until the ending buzzer.
