Volleyball Falls in Five

The Principia College volleyball team traveled 3 ½ hours to Eureka, and after nearly two hours of long rallies and lead changes Eureka prevailed. Principia fought hard, but had a few too many lapses of solid play to sustain control of the match.

Untimely errors at the service line, and a string of communication errors dissolved a Principia lead that could have won game one. The women did come back strong after losing game one, and never relinquished the lead enroute to a 25-20 win. Game three was all about momentum. Principia struck first and pulled to a decent lead over Eureka, but then Principia had a net error, a service error, and a passing error to open the door for a Eureka surge that helped them hit 20 first, and after one last battle Eureka won the game. Game four was a repeat of game two – Principia out of the gates and to the finish line with Eureka chasing the whole way, just the way they like it! Game five was another game of surges, with Principia grabbing the first lead, but Eureka pushing their deep topspin serves and hitting the ball hard to keep the door open. The Red Devils handled themselves well at this key point of the match. They were bold and, and it worked out for them.

Principia kept their hitting errors low , and had four players with over 10 digs. After two close, down to the wire losses this week, it will be imperative that the Panthers learn from the matches and move forward. Principia matches up against MacMurray at home this next Tuesday at 7pm in Hay Fieldhouse.
