The Lady Panthers are showing a significant amount of bravery, playing back to back games with the top two teams in the SLIAC, and losing by so few points. Principia scored the first points of the game off an assist from junior Dani Corbitt to sophomore
Lindsay Sydness under the basket, and from there the battle of focus began. Westminster set up in a press and Principia broke the press with a series of passes which ended up in Sarah Corbitt's hands;
Sarah Corbitt then proceeded to drain a baseline three-pointer, get fouled, and made the free-throw at the line.
During the course of the game, the score was tied nine times and the lead changed 11 times. At the half, teams were tied, 33 to 33. The Lady Panthers and Blue Jay women fought it out the entire game, with the Panthers not seeming to find their rhythm in the last couple of minutes in the second half, losing 53-57.
With great ball movement and some inside out passes to our open shooters, both freshmen
Shannon Briggs and
Sarah Corbitt cashed in two 3-pointers each. Junior Emily Wheeler was the embodiment of mental toughness as she was knocked down, only to rise and knock down two free throws. The sister-to-sister power was seen yet again, when Dani Corbitt made a phenomenal steal, full court attack, and dish to Sarah Corbittt for an easy bucket. Sophomore Lindsey Sydness continues to be our top scorer, finishing the game with her second consecutive double-double with 21 points and 13 rebounds. Sarah Corbitt continues to play scrappy and unrelenting defense with her 4 steals and put up a total of 14 points. Freshmen Dani Carney was money from the field, sinking a few shots at crucial points in the game.
