Griffins hold men's soccer to a scorelss tie in conference duel

ST. LOUIS, MO. -- Traveling to Fontbonne University, Principia men's soccer team walked onto Gay Field with every intention of coming out with a win against the Griffins.  Instead, they found a team determined not to lose. The match played last night was a balanced matchup featuring two teams that have not found ways to put the ball in the net. These perennial SLIAC offensive powers showed their youth in front of the goal with several wasted chances on both sides. The Griffins did well to clear a couple of balls inside the six following a scramble off two set-pieces.

On the other hand Samuel Thomas did well to secure his third shutout of the season by denying two one-on-one counterattack opportunities to decline the Griffins the win in the dying minutes of double overtime. The Panthers are now 5-5-2 on the season and 3-1-1 in conference play heading into another bold conference encounter against defending SLIAC champions Webster University on Saturday at home in Elsah, Ill. at 3:00 PM.
