Principia Falls Short to Eureka; 63-72

The Lady Panthers got off to a slow start, until sophomore Lindsay Sydness opened up the scoring with a finish underneath the basket. Top center in the league, Sydness continued to get the next four points for Principia as well. Freshmen Shannon Briggs went 100% from the arc, hitting two for two from 3-point land. Junior Dani Corbitt really came alive, finding her rhythm out on the court, scoring 9 consecutive points in the later portion of the first half.
Senior Lyndsay Eaton was perfect from the field in the first half, including a three-pointer nearing of the end of the first half. Eaton contributed 11 points for the night, going 3-4 from the 3-point arc. Sophomore Lindsay Sydness got the first of her four blocks in the beginning of the first half, swatting the far ball out of bounds. At the half way mark, the score remained at 34 to 34.
Freshmen Sarah Corbitt had a very coachable night, starting the second half with a strong drive to the basket, earning her a pair from the charity stripe. Sarah Corbitt continued to have solid play, scoring 14 points in the second half, including scoring three shots from beyond the arc. With less than six minutes left to play in the ball game, Eureka went on a run to put the score at 59-54. However, Principia responded with a run of their own going up 63-61, with 4:08 to go on the clock. This was prompted by Lyndsay Eaton draining a 3-pointer, and then from Sarah Corbitt hitting two back-to-back 3-pointers, to put us up by two point (63-61). Unfortunately, Principia did not score again, allowing Eureka to score 11 unanswered points to finish the game 63-72. The Lady Panthers plays next at HOME, Saturday, February 13 at 1:00 pm.
