A Better Fight The Second Time Around; 57-76

The Lady Panthers started off in a man defense, allowing Fontbonne University to go on a 19-2 run during the first ten minutes of play. Freshmen guard Sarah Corbitt intercepted a sweet steal a few minutes into the game which sparked the energy for Principia on the defensive end. The bottom line for Principia, was only scored 15 points in the first half, to match up against Fontbonne's 34 points. Senior Lyndsay Eaton shot 50% from the behind the 3-point arc, hitting our only 3-pointer in the first half. At the intermission, Principia was down 15-34.
To start off the second half, Principia put two points on the board in the first 15 seconds, from a basket by Lindsay Sydness. On the very next offensive possession for Principia, Lyndsay Eaton hit a 3-pointer off the dribble. Principia played scrappy on defense and held Fontbonne to eight less points in the second half, yet still struggled to truly stop their momentum of scoring. Freshmen Shannon Briggs gave a great defensive effort and hit two back-to-back 3-pointers! Forward Dani Corbitt also hit two back-to-back 3-pointers in the second half, and snagged two steals. Leading scorer for the Lady Panthers and for the SLIAC Conference, (with 16 points per game), was Lindsay Sydness with 20 points, while also earning 12 rebounds, 7 blocks, and 3 assists. #3 in the SLIAC in points per game is Sarah Corbitt (with 13.9) finished with 14 points, 5 rebounds,and two steals. Sarah also leads the conference in steals, with 3.4 per game. Emily Wheeler was perfect from the line (2-2) and turned in 4 assists and 5 rebounds. After the first half, the Lady Panthers were able to find their offensive rhythm, scoring 42 points alone in the second half. The Lady Panthers play their very last game, Tuesday February 23, versus Westminster at their place.
