After what looked like a promising first half inning on offense, the team squandered the lead in the bottom half. Six Free passes on the mound did the Panthers in early, as IC pushed across 5 runs.
The Panthers came out swinging in the first inning, driving the ball all over the field.
Jeff Strickland tripled.
Alan Cheatham drove Strickland home on a long double to straight away centerfield.
Samuel Thomas then drove home Cheatham with a clutch 2-strike base hit to right centerfield.
Principia had good momentum going out on defense, but the “MO” was quickly relinquished to the IC dugout. Panther starter,
Nate Gotch, could not find his rhythm and command on the mound, as he gave up 5 runs in the 1
st.
Sophomore
Robbie Nickell came out of the bullpen and threw the ball extremely well for 5 1/3 innings only allowing 1 run. Nickell turned to ball over to
Stuart Waller, who went to efficient innings and allowed no runs.
In the 9th, the Panthers attempted to make a comeback, but it was not to be. The team looks to rebound on Wednesday in Southern California against Whittier College.
