EUREKA, ILL. -- The Principia men's soccer team tasted victory for the first time this season with a much deserved 2-1 win over Eureka on Saturday afternoon in Eureka IL. The Panthers were homecoming spoilers as they denied the Red Devils throughout the match.
The Panthers got on the scoreboard first with a well-executed set piece that ended with
Andres De Paz Nicol serving an inviting ball across the goalmouth from the left flank, which
Spencer Brown made no mistake one-timing into the net in the 20th minute of play. The Panthers dictated most of the play throughout the match missing on several opportunities before
Caleb Brown turned provider after being brought down in the box following a beautiful run in the box.
Elliot Rybak made no mistake with his deceptive penalty kick to wrong-foot the Red Devils net-minder for the game winner and his first career goal in the 52nd minute. Late in the game the Panthers would turn providers as
Daniel Otieno's clearance off the line would ricochet off his teammates back into his own net to provide the Red Devils with the consolation goal.
The Panthers now prepare for a mid-week showdown with Blackburn College in Carlinville, Ill. on Tuesday, September 28. Kickoff is slated for 2:00 PM.
