Men's soccer stumbles its way to 2-0 win over Blackburn College

CARLINVILLE, ILL. -- On a beautiful Tuesday afternoon, the Principia men's soccer team managed to get two goals past Blackburn college for their second consecutive win of the season.  In a wide open encounter dominated through large spells by the Panthers, it did not take much for them to get on the scoreboard.

Patrick Harber's inviting service found Spencer Brown on the far right corner of the box in the 10th minute.  He made no mistake with his powerful strike past the keeper for his third goal of the season.  The Panthers ended the half in control of the match but what transpired in the second half left plenty to be desired, as the Panthers squandered away chance after chance.  Their persistence however was met with an unfortunate play by a Beaver defender whose attempted clearance off the goal line made its way into his own goal to seal the win for the Panthers following back to back attempts off the woodwork by Brown and McGuire Semnacher

Samuel Thomas and the defensive line of John Gotwals, Kevin Hagenlocher, Garrett Bourcier and Harber did well to seal their first shutout of the season. The Panthers now put their winning streak on the line in a rematch with Illinois Wesleyan in Bloomington, Ill. - a match which was postponed a couple of weeks ago at the half while leveled 1-1.  The match will be replayed in its entirety.
