ELSAH, ILL. -- Principia College swam against two teams that had fast swimmers, Lindenwood and Millikin University. The meet was both stimulating and enjoyable with impressive individual races and a game for our spectators during one of the breaks between events. The winners of that game got a free shake at our pub on campus. The games were a pleasant distraction but the real action came in the races and dives.
Tyler Loechner (SO), Will Crowley (SR), Andy Furbush (SO), and Colin Clark (SR) all swam an exciting 200 medley relay as their first event of the meet. The race ended with the relay team getting 2nd place and Loecnher getting an unshaved lifetime best time with his lead off time of 26.61. Then Chip Jackson (SO) did the 1650 free and got a seasonal best time of 19:53.37. Clark got back in the water and got a seasonal best time of 58.75 in the 100 back. Zach Harmon (SO) also ended up getting a seasonal best time for the 100 back but with the time of 1:13.76. Furbush was back in the water for the 200 Fly and end up getting a seasonal best time of 2:06.32. Harmon did well again but in the 50 free and got a seasonal best time of 26.36. Matt Poulos (SR) helped the men's team yet again by doing amazing dives, like the 1 meter 6 dives, in which he got a lifetime best score of 179.70. Back on the other side of the pool, Loechner got a seasonal and unshaved lifetime best time of 2:04.93 in the 200 back. Clark did well in the 200 back too. He ended up getting a seasonal best time of 2:10.59. Later, Casey Towle (FR) did an amazing swim in the 200 breast and as a result took off six seconds from his old seasonal best time 2:46.58. His final time was 2:40.27. Clark swam well again but in the 500 free, an event that he not do in awhile. He got a seasonal best time of 5:27.48. Loechner and the 400 free relay team ended it well for Principia. Loencher got a lifetime best time with his lead-off time of 51.19 in the relay. Brent Bennett, also part of the relay, got a seasonal best split of 58.05.
The meet ended well with the men taking 2nd and the women getting 3rd. Even though the women got third, they did so well in their events that they were only eight-four points away from getting 2nd. The coaching staff were proud of the men and women Principia team's accomplishments. There were some very impressive swims and our diver Matt Poulos did well too. Next weekend, come and see us take on Lindenwood University and Illinois College. This coming meet will be on Saturday, 2/5/2011, at 1:00 PM.
