Women's soccer earns 6-0 victory over Spalding University

Louisville, KY- The Principia women's soccer team spent their fall break traveling to play Spalding University.  Principia won the game out scoring Spalding 6-0.  The game marks the third consecutive game in which six different Principia players have scored goals.  The opening goal, as in the Eureka game, came again form midfielder Kristen Crandall -this time off of a Rachel Publicover cross.    The second goal from Carlie Sanderude who cleaned up a Megan Carothers shot that deflected off a defender.   Kenzie Keller got her third goal of the season collecting a rebound in the middle of the box and burying it in the top of the net.  Alicia Girbes-Pirece scored the final goal of the half muscling her way past defenders to pick up a rebound from a shot and slotting the ball past the outstretched Spalding keeper.

In the second half, Publicover continued her scoring streak with a long range cannon to cap off some creative combination play with the final assist coming from Hayley MacWilliams.   The final goal of the game came from a low driven cross from midfielder Hayley Cooke to Cristina Post who flew with power and speed into the box to connect with the well placed ball.  Torie DeNicholas was awarded the shutout for the game.

The “Lunch Pail Award” was given to Sanderude for her solid and consistent contribution in the middle of the park.  The “Golden Boot” was awarded to the whole team for their strong passing game and great goals.

Principia will celebrate its homecoming this weekend.   It will be a busy weekend as the women play Blackburn College at 1:00PM on Saturday and then play their Alumni at 12:00PM on Sunday.   The excitement will continue on Monday as Principia plays a non-conference, regional game against Grinnell College.
