Box Score 2 A 75th minute strike by Maguire Semnacher was enough to earn Principia a well deserved tie against Webster University on Saturday afternoon in St. Louis, MO. Principia came into the contest hungry and ready to compete for a share of the spoils. Their hard work and persistence on every play paid off as they continued to heap pressure on a Gorlok team that could not unlock the gold and blue side. The first half ended in a barren draw leaving the fireworks for the last stanza.
A 65th minute foul by
Leif Carlson to thwart a breakaway by a gorlock attacker would leave Principia down for the rest of the match. Despite playing a man down, Semnacher, pounced on a loose ball that was punched by the Gorlock keeper before rounding the beleaguered custodian and curling the ball in the covered goal. A clearance attempt by a gorlock defender was not enough and the officials determined the ball had crossed the goal line to give the gold and blue the lead.
The gorlocks however, would charge back vehemently and After a few back and forth exchanges between the teams, the Gorlocks finally exploited Principia's backside capitalizing on a melee on the far right side of the box to tie the game.
The rest of the regulation minutes and overtime was played under fran conditions with both sides prodding for that winning chance but neither captializing on their opportunites, which included an ejection of the Gorlock custodian following the end of the first overtime. Principia now gears up for a home encounter against conference leaders Greenville on Tuesday night in Elsah.
