Two-and-zero Tuesday for Principia Volleyball

ELSAH, ILL.—Tonight the Gold and Blue lit up Hayfield House with two wins, 3-0 against MacMurray and 3-2 against Lindenwood University Belleville. With one starter short, Principia had to work together to be in sync with one another while some players stepped into new positions. Christine Nacewicz moved to the outside hitter where she had seven kills against MacMurray and a career record of seventeen kills against Lindenwood Belleville; Lyssa Winslow played right side where she produced one block and three kills; and against Lindenwood Belleville, Savanna Sprague found herself playing all the way around instead of only a libero in the back row. Though there were pockets of trouble throughout the night, Principia stepped up to demonstrate their theme of the season, “All out, together.”

Coach Sprague comments, “This was a big night for us, especially with our win against Belleville. After losing the fourth game, they could have easily folded, but they pushed through to the end, staying disciplined and playing together.”

Against Lindenwood Belleville, Principia's defense stayed focused with fifteen blocks and eighty-nine digs. Everyone who played in the back row ended that match with digs in the double digits. The win was a team effort.

Also, Kiersten Andersen stepped up tonight with a career high, earning twenty-seven kills against Lindenwood Belleville. She also had twenty-two kills against MacMurray, totaling forty-nine kills for the night. Andersen succeeded at spreading the court and becoming a force that scared her opponents into submission.

Principia travels to La Verne University next to play all out together in California this Friday.
