Softball drops two to Webster in doubleheader

Box Score 3 ELSAH, ILL. -- Principia softball drops both games to Webster today 6-3 and 12-7. This was a double header that would go a long way to finding out just how much progress Principia has made this year. Webster is currently in third place in SLIAC. Game one was close and fairly well played. The Lady Panthers did drop a couple of fly balls that were costly but over all looked pretty good. Pitcher
Devon Harrison held Webster to seven hits but unfortunately Prin could only muster six of their own. Once again they followed a season long pattern of letting the other team score runs right after they had scored. Prin scored three runs to make it a 4-3 game but immediately gave a run back in the next half inning to Webster.
Christine Nacewicz and
Casey Lee both went two for three in the game and Casey scored a run.
Andie Raffles and
Bekah Charlston were both one for three with Bekah driving in two runs.
Game two started out great with Prin scoring four runs in the top of the first but, you guessed it, they gave seven runs back in the bottom of the first. The Panthers stumbled around a little for a few innings and then got back in it by scoring three runs in the fifth to make it a 9-7 game. This time they held Webster off the board in the next inning but couldn't find a way to score a couple more runs. Some missed signals, a base running error, and missed sacrifice bunt attempts cost the team some runs and then Webster added three runs to finish the Panthers off. Prin actually out hit Webster 13 to 10 but seven walks and three hit batters put 10 more runners on the bases for Webster and that made the difference in the game.
These two games proved to the Panthers that they are as good as Webster but they have got to learn how to win. They need to stop making costly mental mistakes and find a way to stop giving runs back to the other team right after they have taken the momentum by scoring in their half of the inning. While Prin's record is not what it should be progress is definitely happening and the wins should start to come more often.
Andie Raffles,
Devon Harrison,
Marina Whitney and
Casey Lee all went two for four in the game with Casey earning an RBI and Devon hitting a double and chalking up three RBI's while Marina scored two runs and had an RBI. Going one for two were
Bekah Charlston and
Jocelyn Shoemake with Jocelyn earning an RBI. Both
Alicia Girbes-Pierce and
Christine Nacewicz were one for four with Ali scoring two runs and stealing a base. Christine scored one run.
