ST. LOUIS, MO. -- Luke Ball pitched the game of his life on Friday night on the road against one of the top SLIAC teams leading the team to a 4-0 victory. Luke showed the maturity and focus of a seasoned veteran, as he mowed down a very good lineup from Fontbonne University for nine complete innings and the shutout.
Because Fontbonne could not get on their field until after a high school tournament was finished, the game did not start until 9:45 at night. Luke maintained razor-like focus all night long, which you don't usually see from a pitcher of his age. He was even able to remain loose and focused during a 4th inning light power failure that delayed the game 30 minutes.
The score was knotted 0-0 going into the 6th inning. The offense, which was led by
Alan Cheatham and
Matt Bowman, pushed two runs across in the 6th. That was all
Luke Ball needed, as he struck out eight batters and only allowed two basehits for the entire nine innings.
Alan Cheatham and
Matt Bowman each had two hits and the entire team played lock down defense all night long to secure the victory.
The team plays again today at Greenville College for a 12:00 noon start.
