Women's soccer falls to Aurora 1-0

ELSAH, ILL.-- The Principia women's soccer team lost to Aurora University today.  Aurora scored in the nineth minute to take the lead early in the game.  Principia fought hard to get the equalizer but were continually thwarted by the Spartan defense.  Midfielders Hayley McWilliams and Kelly DeWindt did a good job winning tackles and helping Principia retain possession of the ball.  With the expectation of the goal in the first half, Principia's defenders dealt well with the speedy Aurora attackers.  Assistant coach Meagan Fleming said, “we continue to have one of the best defenses in the Region.  During the game there were some great glimpses of our potential as a very dangerous attacking team, we just need to get a few players on the same page."

The women's  “Lunch Pail” award went to DeWindt for her tenacious tackles and hard work on and off the ball and the “Golden Boot” award went to Brie Mayer for her composure on and possession with the ball.

Principia will play against Lindenwood Bellevue at home on Tuesday at 7:00 pm.
