Principia outfights North Park in overtime 2-1

ELSAH, ILL.-- Principia women's soccer got their fourth victory of the season last night against North Park University in Chicago.  North Park opened up the scoring of the game when the center official awarded them a penalty kick in the first four minutes.  Keeper Murilla King made a great save on the initial penalty shot that unfortunately rebounded back to the shooter who was sure not to miss her second shot.

Principia worked hard to rebound from the setback.  The women scored on a great individual effort in the 23rd minute by Alicia Girbes-Pierce who after dribbling through several defenders slotted the ball past the North Park keeper.

The 1-1 halftime score would last for the remainder of regulation time and carry on through the first overtime.  At the start of the second overtime, it was all Principia midfielder Hayley Cooke who turned up the heat isolating and then stripping one of North Park's backs from the ball.  Cooke then took a few touches to goal and won the game with her dipping shot that sailed over the North Park keeper and safely into the back of the net.

Cooke's goal was a great way to end a hard fought game.   Principia defense did well to keep a shutout for the remaining 106 minutes of the game.  King, who had yet to let in a goal this season, had a solid rest of the game with eight saves on the night.

The women continue their games on the road this afternoon with a game against Aurora University in Naperville, IL at 4:30 pm.
