Men's Soccer Drops Season Opener to Illinois Wesleyan

BLOOMINGTON, ILL. - Principia men's soccer team opened their 2011 campaign on a sour note as they were overwhelmed by the Illinois Wesleyan Titans 3-0 on Thursday nite in Bloomington, IL.  The titans jumped out to an early lead captializing on a meandering ball in the box to take a 9th minute lead.  Principia settled in and were able to match the titans for the rest of the half.  In the second half the Panthers bounced back and seemed to perhaps be on the verge of snatching an equalizer but instead found themselves opening up defensively.  As a result, a counter attack play culminated on a one vs. one situation which the attacking titan did well to mauever past freshman center back Leif Carlson before unleashing a 20 yard rocket to the upper 90 to take a commanding lead in the 63rd minute.  The titans followed the onslaught ten minutes later when the titan attacker wrong footed freshman Christian Thomas before tucking in the ball past Principia net minder Samuel Thomas to seal the scoring.  C. Thomas,Carlson, Robert Bernacle, Andrew Rohrer, Gustavo Batista, and Nate Waters all made their collegiate debut in this see-saw battle gaining some valuable experience in the process. The gold and blue of Principia turn around to face Rose-Hulman College tonight at 7:30pm for the home opener in Elsah, IL.
