The friday night matchup between Principia men's soccer and Rose-Hulman turned out to be a one sided affair. The match was played on a day in which the weather reached 105 degrees in the area. The Engineers from Terre Haute seemed to have brought the heat in the game with their advantage in ball possession and overall work rate. They were first to find the net following a foul at the top of the box. A low well driven shot parted the meek Principia wall beating an outstreched
Samuel Thomas in goal in the 23rd minute. The gold and blue's true scoring opportunity in the first half came off a service into the box by senior
Colin Angle whose cross went begging through a myriad of legs. The second half offered much of the same with the engineers dominating through long spells in the match. They would finally break the gun shy gold and blue with a good combination play down the flank before converting the service in the box for a comfortable 2-0 lead. The fighting engineers 3rd and final goal in the 86th minute broke the camel's back putting the proceedings beyond reach for a struggling gold and blue side. Noteworthy perfomances from the gold and blue included
Alex Bentley,
Paul Sanderude and the fans who stuck with the team through out a tough night of soccer. Principia now welcomes 19th ranked team in the nation in Washington University on Tuesday night for a 7pm encounter in Elsah.
