Principia lose 1-0 in OT to #7 ranked team in the Nation

ELSAH, ILL. - Principia men's soccer found a way to take the 7th ranked team in the nation into overtime but were unfortunate to succumb to a  99th minute put away by the battling bears.  The match played in Elsah, IL was a remarkably different display for the gold and blue as they fought and consistently clawed themselves out of dangerous situations.  The bears dominated the bulk of the possession but failed to break the notable gold and blue backline led by seniors Paul Sanderude and Patrick HarberAbi Carper and Leif Carlson also did their part to help seal the gold and blue contain.
This game was dominated with plenty of momentum swings, with Principia coming off the blocks swiftly with their consistent pressure on the ball and the ability to hold the ball early forcing the bears to chase.  As the half wore on the bears gained a solid foothold of the game and forced Principia to chase for the rest of the half.  The bears forced Principia's custodian Samuel Thomas to make three outstanding game saving saves to keep Principia in the game.   The second half was a carbon copy of the first with the game finishing with no score in regulation.  In overtime, the bears dominated in possession but a disciplined Principia side kept their cool until  Thomas took a knock during a goal mouth melee.  Cooler heads would prevail but that frailty would soon be exposed as a bear forward fought off Patrick Harber for the ball before coolly bending it past Thomas for the win.  Principia now falls to 0-3 and are still looking for their first win and welcome LeTourneau University from Texas for a regional encounter on Friday afternoon at 4pm in Elsah, IL.
