BLOOMINGTON, IL – The men of the Gold and Blue visited Illinois Wesleyan for a dual meet to start off the New Year. Illinois Wesleyan used their superior depth to come out with the win 22-171. Having been back in the water for some hard training for only 4 days after a 3 week break, the men came into the meet a little tired but performed well with a number of strong races. They showed that they have regained much of their form already and are ready to keep improving.
A few of the highlights are: freshman
Josh Harmon, despite only one day of practice, swam a season best in his 200 Free (1:56.22) to place second. Juniors
Tyler Loechner and
Andy Furbush battled each other and an Illinois Wesleyan swimmer for the top spot in the 200 IM, with Loechner placing second (2:09.29) and Furbush 3
rd (2:11.62). Fellow junior
Karsten Olsen continued his steady improvements with a season best in the 50 free (27.48). Senior
Zach Harmon took the men's other season best in the 100 Free with his 1:01.40.
With another tough week of practice, the swimmers will be ready to once again earn season and lifetime bests going into our next meet. On Friday, Jan 13
th and Saturday the 14
th the men will be back in competition at Washington University-St Louis for the annual Washington University Invitational. The meet starts at 6 pm on Friday and 11 am on Saturday.
