Stalemate in battle of Panthers as men's soccer shares the spoils with Greenville College

Box Score GREENVILLE, ILL. -- In the annual battle for Panther supremacy in the SLIAC both Principia and Greenville shared the spoils as they battled to a 1-1 tie in Greenville, Il on Saturday afternoon.  The game played in the famed blowing side winds in Greenville looked more like a slugfest in a heavy weight battle with both teams playing evenly early on.  Greenville would however exert themselves more as the half wore on despite, two clear chances that Dubien Tshimanga would rue later on as he failed to put a clinical touch on either occasion.  Greenville would pounce on this lapse by capitalizing on a poorly defended throw in by the panthers of Principia.  The bouncing ball in the box begged for a touch and Greenville did well to jump at the chance to take the lead in the 28th minute.

Principia would be patient and were rewarded with a response following a sweeping play orchestrated by Nate Waters.  He did well to pick out Abi Carper on the weak side.  Carper's first touch just outside the right side of the box freed him to send a blazing service across the face of goal.  Richard Bonsi was quickest to react applying a neat touch that eclipsed the keeper to share the spoils with Greenville.

The second half left plenty to be desired with neither side really creating noteworthy chances.  The OT however belonged to Greenville as they mounted an early attack that forced Principia's Matt Jones into a full stretched dive to par away the effort.  A second attempt went by Jones but an alert Robert Barnacle provided cover clearing the ball off the line.  The second OT also offered a near chance as Greenville's corner kick had to be cleared off the goal line twice by Waters to help secure the tie for the panthers.  Principia is now 3-1-1 in conference play and hit the road Tuesday to take on Lindenwood-Belleville in Belleville IL @3pm.
