Box Score ST. LOUIS, MO. -- Trying a new low pressure strategy, the Panthers absorbed a lot of pressure from the Wash U Bears in the first half of the game last night. It was an unfortunate goal due to a poor clearance in the box that allowed an unmarked Wash U player to place the ball in the corner of the goal giving the Bears a 1-0 lead. The Panthers rarely got into the attack the first half because of Wash U's high pressure and the Panthers' low pressure.
The second half the Panthers went back to their normal high pressure game as planned and had a few more opportunities to build the ball up into their offensive half, yet were unable to capitalize on any of their chances. In general, the Panthers struggled to keep possession of the ball resulting in a very defensive game. A lack of defensive awareness on a corner kick allowed the Bears to score their second and final goal in the last 3 minutes of the game.
Considering the amount of pressure the Panthers were under the entire game, Principia's defensive line helped shut down many potential threatening situations. Panther goalie, Sanna Ahman, gave an outstanding performance blocking shot after shot and keeping the Panthers in the game. Ahman was awarded the teams' Lunch Pail award afterward for all her hard work.
