Gorlocks sneak past Panthers 1-0

Box Score ELSAH, ILL. -- An early second half penalty kick goal proved to be the difference in a well contested match between Principia and Webster University on Saturday afternoon.  With the weather doing its part and cooperating with beautiful sunny skies amidst the precious fall colors, the ambience was set for a mouthwatering homecoming clash between two teams battling for playoff positioning.  The Panthers dominated most of the first half with fluid movements that resulted on some goal scoring chances.  Nate Waters was on the end of a good exchange between Leif Carlson and McGuire Semnacher.  Waters beat the keeper but could not beat the woodwork.  Carlson was also at it minutes later when he picked up a ball just 30 yards out and dribbled right before unleashing a screamer that was thwarted back by the cross bar.  Minutes later Waters unlocked the Gorlock defense but his effort once again met the woodwork with the keeper beat.   Despite the Panther's dominance on the day, what they will rue most were their missed chances in the first half.  Principia now focuses their attention on Blackburn College on Tuesday afternoon in Carlinville, IL.  Principia drops to 3-2-1 in conference play with two more conference games left to determine playoff qualification.
