Lost in the woods; Prin drops 2nd game to St. Mary's 43-65

Box Score

CLINTON, IN. – Tonight the Principia College women's basketball team traveled to Clinton, IN to face the St. Mary of the Woods Pomeroys in their 2nd meeting of this season.  Having lost to St. Mary's by 15 the first time around, Principia was eager to tie the series at one apiece.  Off to a slow start however, Principia struggled on offense from early on, missing several open shots and turning the ball over.  Defensively Principia came out strong though, and the score was just 8-4 almost nine minutes into the first half.  But senior captain Lindsay Sydness picked up her 3rd foul with about 10 minutes to go, and St. Mary's went on a brief run which opened up the game a bit for the Pomeroys.  The shooting woes continued for Principia and at halftime the Panthers found themselves down 29-18.

The 2nd half was no better, with Principia giving up several buckets in transition to St. Mary's, and not quite converting on the necessary offensive possessions.  Prin did run the floor well on offense, and continued to have open shots, but the execution just wasn't there tonight.  With a final score of 65-43, Principia left the gym down 2-0 in this season's series to St. Mary of the Woods.

Principia plays next on Saturday, February 18th at home against Greenville College.  Principia will also have a senior celebration at halftime of this game, in honor of senior captain Lindsay Sydness.  Tip-off is scheduled for 1:00 pm.
