ST. LOUIS, MO. -- Tonight the Principia College women's basketball team travelled to St. Louis to play the Eutectics of the St. Louis College of Pharmacy. Having won in their last meeting, Principia was looking to sweep the season series with another victory. And they did just that. With substantial minutes for every member of the team, each player contributed to the victory, some with rebounds, some with points, and some with solid defense.
Principia held STLCOP to just 8 points in the first half, and knocked down several shots, particularly from beyond the arc. In fact, Prin shot 45% from 3-point land, going 9 for 20. Prin also shot 80% from the charity stripe, 3 of which came from junior forward Jocelyn Shoemake who got fouled beyond the arc and stepped to the line to sink all three. Six of these belonged to junior captain Sarah Corbitt who shot an impressive 6 for 10 from beyond. She ended as the leading scorer with 20 points on the night, to which she added 4 boards and 4 assists. Freshman forward Torie DeNicholas had 9 points total, including two 3-point field goals and a nice And-One. Our other freshman forward Karina Olsen almost logged her first double-double with 8 points and 9 boards. And senior captain Lindsay Sydness ended with 10 points (5 for 12 from the field) a game high 16 boards, and 2 blocks.
Principia plays next on Tuesday, February 14th at Fontbonne University. Tip-off is scheduled for 6:00 pm.
