Yaw Danso signs a one year deal with Puerto Rico Highlanders

Former Principia soccer All-American Yaw Danso signed a one year deal with professional outfit Puerto Rico Islanders for the upcoming 2012 season.   Danso who finished his Principia career in 2009, was the conference player of the year his senior season.  During his collegiate career he led the Gold and Blue to the 2007 NCAA tournament and finished his career fourth on the scoring list with 28 goals, 2nd in assists with 26, and 3rd in points with 81.

“This is a monumental day in the young career of Danso” says his college coach Vitalis Otieno.  "With his commitment and work ethic he will find a way to excel at the next level.  He has the great attributes of players that make it to that level.  He is dynamic and combines his strength and agility well but the x factor for him will be his mental toughness and that's what will determine his staying power at that level and above.  We are all proud of him and will follow his career closely and I know he will be a solid representative of both Principia soccer and the SLIAC as a whole.”

The Islanders play in the North American Soccer League which is the main feeder league for the Major League Soccer and is sanctioned by the U.S Soccer Federation (USSF) as the second division of professional soccer.  "I am grateful for this opportunity. I count my blessings every day. I also recognize that every day is a new day, and it is another opportunity to go out and demonstrate my God like qualities. In everything I have done so far, I can honestly attest to the fact that if passion, faith, and perseverance are not a part of you, then attaining success will not be possible" says Danso.

The season kicks off on April 9th when the islanders host the Carolina Railhawks.
