Panthers fall to Gorloks in a long day of baseball

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 ELSAH, ILL.--The Gold and Blue played a triple header against Webster University on Saturday after a doubleheader rainout on Friday. Webster swept the trio of games 17-0 in game 1, 9-5 in game 2, and 15-11 in game 3. Game one started Friday night, but was halted due to rain and was restarted on Saturday afternoon. Webster jumped all over the Panthers scoring 12 runs in the first two innings and the Panthers were unable to get anything going.
 
In game two Principia came out with more energy and a much better effort, but Webster proved to be too much, taking the game 9 to 5. Sophomore Luke Ball got the start pitching 6 innings, striking out 6, and giving up 5 earned runs. Senior Nate Gotch came in relief pitching 2 innings and allowed 1 earned run. Offensively the Panthers hit the ball well with Senior Robbie Nickell leading the way going 2-4 with an RBI.
 
The Panthers jumped out to an early 4-2 lead in game 3 after one inning, but Webster answered back with 5 runs in the 2nd inning. Webster added three more runs in the 5th inning. Down 10-4 the Panthers rallied for 4 runs in the 6th inning with Kit Banko delivering a three run triple to clear the bases. In the 8th inning the Gorloks struck for 5 runs stretching the lead to 15 to 8. The Panthers again rallied in the 9th inning for 3 runs, but came up short dropping the game 15-11. Offensively the Panthers scored 11 runs on 10 hits and again hit the ball well. Kit Banko lead the way with 5 RBI's, Gavin Thomas went 3-5 with 2 RBI's, and Spencer Clevenger went 2-5. The Panthers used five pitchers with Nate Gotch getting the start. Gavin Thomas pitched four strong innings allowing only one earned runs and Zach Becker pitched one scoreless inning in relief.
