Strong pitching and clutch hitting lead Principia past Illinois College 4-3

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 ELSAH, ILL. --The Gold and Blue used a two run 8th inning to complete a comeback win 4-3 over Illinois College. Down 3-2 entering the 8th inning the Panther's got some clutch hitting by Kit Banko to score Gavin Thomas who lead off the inning with a walk and then Robbie Nickell hit a single to plate Kit Banko. Freshman Gavin Thomas closed the door pitching a scoreless 9th inning and earning his first save of his college career.
 
Senior Greg Ball got the start and pitched four innings giving up two earned runs while striking out 6 batters. After giving up a two run homerun in the first inning Greg settled in and held the Blueboys in check over the next three innings. Nate Gotch relieved Greg Ball in the fifth inning and pitched three scoreless innings striking out four and not allowing a hit. Robbie Nickell pitched a scoreless 8th inning, striking out two. Offensively, Justin MacDonald lead the attack with 3 hits, Kit Banko added two hits with an RBI, and Gavin Thomas hit a solo homerun. Overall the Panthers scored four runs on 9 hits. With the win the Panthers move to 7-7 on the season and are back in action at home this Friday against Fontbonne University at 5pm in a conference matchup.
