Principia defeats Greenville 5-2 behind strong pitching from Greg Ball; drop game two 5-1

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 | Box Score 3 GREENVILLE, ILL. -- After allowing two runs in the first inning senior Greg Ball shuts down Greenville College Panthers, throwing a compete game and helping the Gold and Blue earn their first conference victory 5-2. Ball went 7 innings, allowing only four hits, two runs, and striking out four. Principia used a five run and eight hit attack in the fouth inning to capture the lead and propel them to the victory. In the fourth inning Robbie Nickell leadoff with a single and then Alan Cheatham and Kit Banko also followed with singles. With the bases loaded Gavin Thomas smacked a 2-run double scoring Nickell and Cheatham. Justin MacDonald followed with an RBI single and then Stevie Harmon hit a double. After a failed suicide squeeze Dallen Russell walked after a nine pitch at-bat and then Robert Barnacle hit a sharp single to score Harmon. It was all the offense the Panthers needed as they earned their first conference victory.

In game two Greenville topped Principia 5-1. Principia had great opportunities to score in several innings but could not come up with the big hit as they faced one of the top pitchers in the conference, David Massengill. Senior Nate Gotch took the loss and did not have his best stuff, but battled and kept the Panthers within reach going 4 innings, allowing only three hits, and four runs. Senior Robbie Nickell pitched great in relief going 4 innings, allowing only one run and four hits. 

The Panthers are back in action Tuesday April 17th when they travel to Fulton, MO to take on Westminster College at 4pm.
