Box Score 2 ELSAH, ILL. -- A four run 6th inning highlighted by
Alan Cheatham's two run triple propeled the Panthers to a game one victory 8-5. The Panthers got on the board early scoring three runs in the second inning.
Greg Ball started the inning by walking and then advanced to second base on a wild pitch. Steve Harmon hit a solid single driving in Greg.
Christian Thomas reached first on a base hit bunt and then Robert Barnacle hit a hard line drive caught by the third baseman doubling up Harmon at second.
Spencer Clevenger followed with a walk and then both runners advanced on a wild pitch.
Justin MacDonald then reached on an error by the shortstop scoring Thomas.
Alan Cheatham followed with an RBI single.
MacMurray answered with two runs in the third inning and then one run in the fourth inning. With the score tied 3-3 in the fourth inning the Gold and Blue retook the lead on some clutch two out hitting by both MacDonald and Cheatham. MacDonald hit a single and then advanced to second on an error. Alan came up again clutch driving in Justin with an RBI single.
The Panthers held a slim 4-3 lead heading into the 6th, but were able to open the game up scoring four runs.
Christian Thomas leadoff the inning with an infield single and advanced to second on a throwing error. Robert Barnacle and
Spencer Clevenger got on base after being hit with the pitch and then
Justin MacDonald hit a deep sacrifice fly to center field driving in a run and advancing all the runners.
Alan Cheatham drove in both runners with a triple and then
Kit Banko singled in Cheatham. Up 8-3 the Panthers were able to hold on and stop the MacMurray rally, winning 8-5.
Nate Gotch picked up his second victory of the season pitching a stellar 6 innings. Nate was sharp as he struck out 9 batters while only walking one. Nate only allowed 4 hits, 3 runs, and only 1 earned run.
Gavin Thomas pitched the final inning and was able to work out of a jam. Offensively
Alan Cheatham paced the Panthers with 3 hits and 4 RBI's and
Christian Thomas collected 2 hits.

Greg Ball, and Steve Harmon all contributed with a hit.
In game two the Panthers got down early 3-1. In the 5th inning sloppy play and some mental lapses allowed the Highlanders to score 6 runs and 3 more in the 6th. The Panthers answered with a run in both the 5th and 7th inning to bring the score to 12-3. In the 8th
Alan Cheatham crushed a three run homerun to bring the score to 12-6. The Panthers rallied in the 9th scoring again, but were unable to get all the way back, falling 12-7.
Freshman
Jake Elmore got the start for the Panthers pitch 4 1/3 innings.
Scott Ross relieved Jake and pitched 2/3 of an inning before giving way to
Zack Becker who pitched one inning.
Dallen Russell pitched the final 3 innings and did not allow a run.
Offensively the Panthers were again lead by
Alan Cheatham who had two hits and finished the day 5 for 7 with a homerun, triple, and 8 RBI's.
Justin MacDonald added two hits and had a good day at the plate.

The Panthers are back in action Friday when they travel to play Blackburn College at 3pm.
