Women's soccer ties Millikin in double overtime

Box Score Elsah, IL—Tonight Principia tied Millikin University 2-2 in double overtime.  In the first half, Millikan set the tone with a goal in the first six minutes of the game.  However, the Panthers responded with a goal of their own in the 16th minute of the game.  Center midfielder Hayley MacWilliams, assisted by forward Rachel Publicover, scored the goal from 20 yards out placing the ball far right corner out of the Millikin keeper's reach.  Nonetheless, Millikin continued to penetrate through our defensive line and scored yet a second goal to take the lead at the half 2-1.

After the halftime talk, the panthers rallied back and started playing their style of soccer, putting pressure on the midfield, playing defense, connecting passes and creating more scoring opportunities. Rachel Publicover capitalized on one of these chances on a breakaway and brought the score to a 2-2 tie. After the goal the Principia Panthers continued to control the game, yet their inability to finish their scoring chances, forced the game to go into two ten minute overtimes, finally ending the game in a 2-2 tie.

The women play again this Saturday at home, 6pm, against Loras College.
