Women's soccer defeats Loras College 2-1 in final minute of regulation

Box Score
ELSAH, ILL. -- Rachel Publicover scored two goals in the game to defeat Loras College.  The Loras women's soccer team was ranked #18 in the nation in 2011.  “The victory was an important step for us,” said Coach Semnacer, “these are the kind of teams we need to compete with and beat to reach our SLIAC and post-season goals."

The game opened up with Loras scoring the first goal in the 27th minute.  The Principia women answered eight minutes later when Publicover banged the ball into the back of the net by a cross from Hayley MacWilliams.  After half with a 1-1 score line, Principia came out with renewed vigor and began to dominate the game playing tough defense and had many chances on goal.  Keeper Sanna Aahman had a few keys saves in the second half that kept Loras at bay.  After seveval great attacks Principia was finally rewarded for their efforts in the last minute of the game when Publicover got on the end of another cross this time served in by Cristina Post.  Publicover's two goals earned her the team “golden boot” award.  The “Lunch Pail” award was given to Hayley MacWilliams for her hard work on both sides of the ball.

The Principia Women's soccer team are now 2-1-1 on the season.  They will play down river opponent Lindenwood-Belleville this Tuesday in Belleville, Il.
