Heartbreak on the bluffs

Box Score Elsah, Ill. - To a home crowd, Principia faced the nationally ranked number three team in the nation, Washington University in St. Louis and lost 6-0. The first half was a good showing for Principia where there were long stretches where they outplayed the Bears. The Panthers maintained their defensive shape, and showed patience in the attack. It was unfortunate they were down 2-0 at half due to poor marking. Second half, the Panthers morale plummeted after the Bears third goal in the 54th minute of the game. The Bears went on to score three more goals ending the game 6-0.

Despite the score, Principia had some nice stretches where they played good soccer. In the back, junior Becca DeNicholas and freshman Rachel Perea, and sophomores Kathryn Croney and Justine Roy all had a great game. In the middle, sophomore Gabby Martin played aggressively, breaking up plays and had good distribution.

The Panthers play at home this Saturday afternoon at 3:00 PM against Iowa Wesleyan.
