Box Score The Principia men's soccer team failed again in their bid to put a dent on conference leaders Webster falling 2-1 in a hotly contested battle that could have gone either way. The first half ended in a stalemate as neither team converted on its half chances. Webster however jumped out in the second half with a speculative shot that glanced off the crossbar from the right flank to signal their determination to get a result. The Gorlocks who are ranked 8
th in the latest central region polls were dominant defensively and were tough to unlock. They then ceased on a corner kick in the 47th minute when the Panthers failed to clear a bouncing ball in the box to net the opener.
The Panthers responded well regaining the leverage and dictating the pace through long spells in the second half with their penetrating movements dying sheepishly on the Gorlocks doorsteps. In the 75
th minute of play however, Laurencee Martins picked up a loose ball, eluded one defender, and calmly chipped the keeper from 35 yards away for the equalizer. The onslaught was on with the Panthers trying desperately to uncork the Gorlocks. Their efforts were rendered void when a harmless corner kick resulted in another soft goal with five minutes left in regulation. A heartbreaking loss for sure but one the Panthers executed well tactically but the two mistakes were just too costly to overcome. The Panthers return home for a homecoming matchup against Blackburn College on Saturday at 1:00 PM.
