Volleyball cranks out victories over Iowa Wesleyan and Hannibal LaGrange

Box Score 1 The volleyball team went 2-0 on the day with a conference victory over Iowa Wesleyan and their second win over Hannibal LaGrange.

Prin swept Iowa Wesleyan 3-0 with solid defensive play, a diverse offense and high percentage serving! The team served 93%, with 2 aces from Summer Switzer, and one apiece from Sierra Sprague and Christine Nacewicz. 100% servers included Savanna Sprague and Summer.

It was a great match for the "twin towers" Tess Rountree and Jess Bushong. They attacked 40% of the Panther balls (53 hits) and each had only one error, hitting .438 and .428 respectively. Both added great net play and two solo blocks each, along with Lily Richards' two solo blocks. Sierra Sprague was tough in the back row picking up a match high 20 digs.

It was a solid match with good team play, and the team waited patiently for the right ball to put away. The women showed discipline in their tireless defense.

Hannibal LaGrange (HLG) ran a quick offense designed to beat their opponents at the net. They had some success, but Prin dug in and kept defending at the net and in the backcourt. HLG was a bit impatient and hit too many balls out in game one and Prin was error free offensively! Prin crept by in game two 25-22, with too many hitting errors of their own, and a few key HLG hitters were finding their rhythm. Game three proved to be a problem as HLG had tightened up their game and was successful in setting up their studs to terminate balls. The tough Panther mentality stumbled a bit as HLG took game three 25-17. The Panthers began game four with fire in their eyes, and discipline in their game. They followed the game plan well and were playing good ball, although HLG was hanging in as the two teams were tied 13-13. Prin had a few fiery defensive moments that really energized their charge, and the game opened up 19-13, 22-16, and finally 25-18.

Tess had another great and thoughtful match with 20 kills and only one error, hitting .441. Sierra Sprague was hitting hard and driving their defense crazy as she moved her hits around the court finding holes and ending up
with nine kills, hitting .292.

The team served 93% again, and Savanna and Summer led the charge with another 100% at the line. Summer added three aces and Molly Moser had two. Tess and Summer led the defense with 27 and 25 digs respectively, and Jess Bushong was still a presence at the net with three solo blocks! Kudos to the team for a gold medal refocus after faltering in game three – they came back unified and strong!

Panther volleyball is now 12-6, and travels to Eureka next.
