Principia Falls to Illinois College in Their Season Opener

Box Score The Principia College Men's Basketball team traveled to Jacksonville, Il. on Friday night for a tournament contest against the host team Illinois College. In the first half the Panthers had the early season jitters and could not buy a basket., falling behind 63 to 16 at half. Coming out in the second half with renewed purpose the team played much better offensively scoring 37 points for a total of 53 points. However, they were unable to slow down the Blueboys as they ended their night with 114 points. Kenny Sydness, from Principia led all scorers with 23 pointsand 8 rebounds, followed by Zeke Light from IC with 20 points. IC lit up the three point line, shooting 16 of 32 from beyond the arc. Principia scored their points on the inside, going 0 for 6 from beyond the arc. Freshman Sawyer Grow played a nice all around game with 8 points, 8 rebounds, an assist, a block, and a steal. Newcomer for Principia, Steven Hammond,, was 2 for 5 from the field with 2 rebounds and 3 assists in just 13 minutes of play. The panthers will finish out their tournament play on Saturday against Knox College. Tip off will be at 1:00 in the Bill Merris Athletic Complex at Illinois College.
