Box Score Elsah IL. Today the Principia Women's team hosted Greenville for Senior Day, as well as their final regular season match. Principia came out strong in the first half, connecting passes and keeping the play in Greenville's half the majority of the time. However they were unable to find many scoring opportunities. At half time Principia celebrated their four seniors,
Murilla King,
Hayley Cooke,
Carlie Sanderude and
Hayley MacWilliams. It was a great way to thank them for all their devotion and selfless contributions to the program over the past four years.
Second half Greenville came out strong and threw Principia out of their rhythm. Fortunately, senior
Carlie Sanderude played a through ball into fellow senior
Hayley MacWilliams resulting in a breakaway goal. Tragically, within 5 minutes Greenville rallied back and scored tying the up 1-1 with 13 minutes left to play. Regulation time finished without another goal and so commenced the overtimes.
Principia found their rhythm again keeping possession of the ball and completing well hit crosses consistently for the two ten minute overtimes, but still no goal for either team. The double overtime ended with a 1-1 tie.
Principia will travel to Greenville for the semi-final SLIAC Conference match this Thursday.
