Farewell in Fulton; Principia plays final game of the season vs. the number one team in SLIAC

Box Score

FULTON, MO. -- Tonight the Principia College women's basketball team traveled to Fulton, MO to play the Westminster Blue Jays in their final game of the 2013 season.  The game started with some strong defensive stops for the Panthers, but the full court Blue Jay pressure started to take its toll.  With 18 first half turnovers, Principia struggled to get clean looks at the basket, and the Panthers relied heavily on senior captain Sarah Corbitt for their offensive production.  Having played anything but the Panther basketball they are capable of, Principia went into the locker room at halftime determined to make some changes.

The 2nd half started off just as roughly as the 1st for the Panthers, and it wasn't until about 8 minutes left in the game that Principia started to really play.  Finally taking some pride in their defense, Principia was able to convert their defensive energy into offense.  While the final 8 minutes showed more of what the Panthers have been about this season, they were unable to really bridge the scoring gap, despite shooting above their average field goal percentage, and going 82% from the charity stripe.  The final buzzer sounded with the Westminster Blue Jays adding another victory to the SLIAC best 14-2, and the Panthers said a final good-bye to seniors Jocelyn Shoemake and Sarah Corbitt.  Corbitt finished the game with 29 points, and shot an impressive 11-12 from the free throw line.  Sophomore captain Becca DeNicholas led the team with 7 rebounds.

The Panthers are so grateful for all the love and support from their fans this season.  Looking forward to next season!
