Panthers softball fall to Spalding

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 LOUISVILLE, KY. --

Spalding – 13          Principia – 3

Principia hadn't been able to play a game for two weeks due to wet fields and snow and with today's first game of a double header the team looked like they hadn't played for a while.  The team looked out of sync and a little rusty.  When you are playing a team as good as Spalding (ranked #2 in SLIAC) you can't afford to not have you're 'A' game with you.  Too many errors led to two big innings for Spalding and that was the game as it ended after 5 innings.

Thanda Kyaw and Jocelyn Shoemake each had a hit and Kelsey Whitney had a double, an RBI and scored a run.  She also played well behind the plate in this game picking off two runners.

Spalding – 9             Principia – 4

What a difference from game one of this double header.  Principia came out strong and scored two in the top of the 1st inning and it could have been more but a base running error proved costly.  There was a little more fire in the team for game two and they went toe to toe with Spalding right through 5 innings.  Several errors, mental and physical in the 6th inning led to Spalding scoring 4 runs to pull away.  The errors were the difference as the teams played a very closely contested match otherwise.  Just goes to show what this team can do when they avoid errors.

Christine Nacewicz got a hit, scored 2 runs and her hit was a triple.  Jocelyn Shoemake got another hit in this game and Kelsey Whitney continued her power surge with a triple and 3 RBI's.  Thanda Kyaw was 2 for 4 with a run scored and an RBI.  The team continued to put the ball in play as they only recorded 4 strike outs in the game.
