Senior Night for Softball
Box Score 1 |
Box Score 2 Elsah, Illinois
Iowa Wesleyan – 10 Principia – 0
Iowa is an impressive team. They do all facets of the game well. They have very good pitching and defense, they hit well and run the bases aggressively. They simply over powered Principia in this double header. Their experience and greater awareness of game situations were too much for Principia to handle. Principia's effort was there but each mistake they made was capitalized on by Iowa. They jumped out to an early lead and with the pitching they had it was apparent that it was going to be a major challenge for Principia to come back. Principia battled and played well for several innings but then a few more mistakes in the 5
th and the game was blown open.
Due to the strength and dominance of the pitching Principia only collected two hits.
Christine Nacewicz was 1 for 2 as was
Devon Harrison and her hit was a triple.
Iowa Wesleyan – 9 Principia – 1
Game 2 was almost a carbon copy of game 1. Iowa plays the game really well. They come out and attack on offense and defense and pounce on any mistake that their opponent makes. Like game 1 they took an early lead but the ever game Principia squad hung in there and made it a 3-1 game at one point. You have to take your hat off to Principia for their effort but playing teams as good as Iowa really exposes their lack of experience, knowledge of the game and skill.
Iowa will be a new member of the SLIAC Conference next year so Principia will be facing them on an annual basis. With how well Iowa plays they should challenge for top spot in the Conference next year.
Like game 1, Principia faced another good pitcher and she shut down the offense. Only
Jocelyn Shoemake was able to get a hit.
Kelsey Whitney scored the only run after yet another game where she got hit twice by pitches to get on base. She has definitely earned the teams Black and Blue award!
This was also Senior Day and the team took time between games to recognize their 4 seniors,
Tess Schloemer,
Jocelyn Shoemake,
Marianna Distel and
Devon Harrison. Each of them has left a positive mark on the softball program and have been fine examples of many of the qualities expected by the program.
