Principia women's soccer puts up a fight in double OT; loses to Grinnell 1-2

Box Score Grinnell, Iowa - This morning we left Principia just as the light was illuminating the dark sky.  We traveled to Iowa where we were unable to escape the heat, although encountered a few rain drops.  As the whistle blew we came out with one thing on our mind, score a goal.  However, due to great saves by the Grinnell keeper and our inability to capitalize we were forced to remain patient on our opportunities.  A sloppy foul in the penalty box gave Grinnell the 1-0 lead forcing us to trail behind.  We struggled to find our rhythm.  As the second half progressed we began working the ball around the field and Grinnell was feeling the pressure.  With about eight minutes left in the half we were given a free kick 40 yards out.  Carlie Sanderude took the kick and found Rachel Perea's head for the flick to Haley MacWilliams' head who flicked it in the goal tying the game 1-1.  The tie led to double overtime in which a poor clearance on defense led to another goal by Grinnell who ended up with the 2-1 win.

Although the game did not go our way, the coaching staff was pleased in the way we kept fighting which resulted in a goal to tie the game.  We also saw great ball movement in the second half and are excited to see more in the games to come.

We look forward to our first home game this Tuesday against Lindenwood-Belleville and hope to see the stands full!
