Greenville wins Battle of Panthers 1-0 in second OT

Box Score Elsah, ILL- In another epic battle of Panther Supremacy, Greenville College emerged with a 1-0 double OT victory on a cool Saturday night.  The game played before a lively crowd was a battle of contrasting styles.  Principia resorted to its usual build up play while Greenville remained patient and looked to respond on the counter.  In the early going, Greenville missed  a great opportunity when their forwards run off the backside of Principia's wingback and found a nice service but his first touch was wanting despite him starring at a half empty net from six yards.  With the warning shots firing, Principia decided to tidy up and marshalled the game for most of the half circulating the ball at will, while probing every angle on the pitch to find an advantage.

A buoyant McGuire Semnacher continually found space on the flank to wreak havoc on the Panther defenders and it was his scrumptious delivery in the box that demanded an answer from a streaking Ross Furbush in the box.  His effort however found the sure handed Panther net minder.  Briggs Hurley's mazy run would result in a curling effort that just whisked inches wide of the far post.  As the half came to a close, Principia had every reason to believe it was their day as they showed the most promise with consistency in ball circulation and probing.

The second half was much of the same until the dying minutes when Leif Carlson's decision to take down an attacker just outside the box had to be dealt with nervously.  The wall and net minder Matt Jones however, did their job and the effort went just wide much to the relief and disappointment of the Panther nation.
The overtime periods were much of the same until the second half when a long throw in was initially dealt with by the Principia backline but the clearance found a Greenville defender near the half way line.  His dump ball to the back post was poorly addressed by Principia and when the wide open effort was blocked by an alert Akimie Ogilvie, the ball ricocheted and spilled generously to a wide open Panther front runner for the easiest of tap-ins.  Principia's conference record now slips to 2-1 and next face Fontbonne University on Tuesday afternoon in St. Louis at 8pm.
