Principia Women's Soccer ties Greenville 1-1

Box Score Elsah, IL -- Tonight the Principia Panthers travelled west to take on the Greenville Panthers. The game started off fairly even. Principia had a couple chances but was unable to get the ball past the keeper. Twenty minutes into the first half, Greenville scored off a breakaway after a defensive miscommunication between Principia's center backs and wing backs. Principia rallied back. The women were able to connect passes in the back and midfield but lacked the creativity to bring the forwards into the play effectively and score.

In the middle junior, Gabby Martin did an excellent job winning the ball back and switching the point of attack. Sophomore, Sam Bronkar took on the role of winning every 50/50 ball in the middle and significantly helped Principia control the game in the midfield. In the back, freshman, Clarice Bruch had a great game winning head balls and  moving into the attack with speed. The first half ended in a 1-0 lead for Greenville.

Second half Principia came out on fire, keeping the majority of the play in Greenville's defensive half. About 20 minutes in, freshman, Tanya Marquardt, hit a corner kick to the back of the 6, where Bruch asserted herself in the air and headed it into the back of the net making the game a 1-1 tie.

The game continued with Principia dominating the play but unable to capitalize on their build ups. The game moved into two 10 minute overtimes but no goal for either team.

Principia plays again next Tuesday at Fontbonne, 6:00.
