Box Score CARLINVILLE, ILL. -- Nate Waters' timely hat trick all but sealed the points for Principia men's soccer in their thrilling Tuesday afternoon tussle in Carlinville, Illinois.
Pierson Gill's first collegiate goal proved to be the insurance goal the Panthers would need on the day, as they won their first away game of the season. The towering trio led by
Justin Ball,
Aleq McMullin and
Richard Bonsi did well to set the stage for the Panthers by helping pin the Beavers in their own defensive third for most of the first half.
Waters struck in the 16th minute on an individual effort that bounced off the far post into the net for the opener. Gill's thunderous follow up shot from the right flank off a Waters pass gave Principia a 2-0 cushion. Gill would return the favor squaring the ball across the face of the goal for a Waters tap in, just two minutes into the second half. The pesky Beavers would respond off a towering header to make it 3-1. The Waters show would however continue when
Laurencce Martins' pass found a streaking Waters who made no mistake securing the lead at 4-1 before a late consolation header by the beavers to wrap up the proceedings. Principia will travel to St. Louis on Thursday to take on Washington University at 7pm in their final regular season non-conference date.
