Women's soccer back on track with win against Blackburn

Box Score CARLINVILLE, ILL.- Principia women defeat Blackburn 4-0.  The game got off to a bumpy start when Principia gave up both a breakaway and a penalty kick.  Keeper Genevieve Smith did well to keep the Beavers scoreless forcing the breakaway shot wide and then a few minutes later saving the PK.  The Panthers got on the board in the 13th minute with a shot to the upper left corner by junior Gabriela Martin that was assisted by freshman Emelie Fredrikson.  The second goal was a 25 yard shot by freshman Tanya Marqaurdt, in the 15th minute, that sailed over the Blackburn keeper (assisted by Nadine Marczi).   In the second half, Marqaurdt scored again, this time with a spectacular header off a Kenzie Keller cross tallying the third goal in the 63rd minute.  The fourth goal came five minuets later in the 68th minute when Marczi chipped the keeper off a pass from freshman defender Clarice Bruch.  The game was "a good team win," said head coach Jess Semnacher, who continued, "Blackburn has been a tough team for conference teams to beat at home.  I thought we did a good job being patient and creating quality chances."  This win keeps the Panthers in the hunt for a berth in the conference tournament.  The next match will be held this Saturday, in Fulton, Mo. against Westminster College.
